Dear Mother Spirit

Dear Mother Spirit,

We see you. All of you. All of the women who don't love this holiday. All of you who long to bear a child of your own. All of you who long for a child you had and is already gone. All of you who desire to adopt or foster a child. All of you.

We want you to enjoy this holiday. We celebrate YOU too.

Many of you are mothers in spirit. Many of you care for our children when we no longer can. One of you cared for mine when I couldn't lift one leg in front of the other and walk up the steps to care for my own. You showed up. You placed your life aside and you laid down yours for mine and for my children. That makes you a mother.

One of you works with children that aren't yours; every single day. You read books and sings songs and teach them. You greet moms and children at the door with a loving smile ready to take over. Do you know how helpful and supportive that is? Do you know how many times I have dropped the children off and just sat in silence and let tears stream down my face because I couldn't care for anyone else another second and you were doing it for me? That act takes the spirit of a mother.

A wise man recently reminded me that women were made in the image of God. We were made as caring, compassionate and loving individuals with purpose. It is strung through our DNA. It is woven in our hearts and we can't undue it. You can't un-mother yourself. And we won't let you.

We love you. We see you. We celebrate you, especially this holiday.

Please join me this year in remembering and honoring those special women in your life. Those women who may not have a child of their own, but they are still have a hard core Mother Spirit!

xoxo,

Mollie
